MULBERRY GROVE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO MEET

The Mulberry Grove Board of Education will meet Tuesday, January 22, at 7:00 p.m.  The agenda includes principals’ and superintendent’s reports, a technology revolving loan, board elections, proposed 2013-2014 calendar, graduation dates, summer school food program, holiday waivers, and a closed session.


GREENVILLE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT 2012 REPORT

The Greenville Fire Protection District 2012 annual report shows a total of 195 calls for the year.  There were 16 structure fires and seven vehicle fires.  Nineteen calls were to grass, brush, or trash fires.  Firefighters were called for four rescues and assisted EMS personnel ten times.  There were nine false alarms, 18 system malfunction calls, and 30 system activation alarms.  Fire department personnel responded to 15 carbon monoxide alarms, 12 spills or leaks, and 13 smoke scares.  One call was canceled en route and there were 19 calls classified as other.  Area fire departments willingly help each other when called to do so.  Greenville Firefighters provided mutual aid to other departments 20 times in 2012 and area departments assisted the Greenville Department 13 times.

ANNUAL CHAMBER PROGRAM TO HIGHLIGHT NEW BUSINESSES

The annual Greenville Chamber of Commerce “New Faces and Places” breakfast showcases new businesses.  The breakfast is Wednesday, February 6, at 7:30 a.m., at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church Hall.  The program is open to new businesses and those that have expanded, extensively remodeled, or are under new ownership.  Chamber membership is not required and businesses are invited to send a representative to bring greetings.  Attendees are encouraged to bring brochures, flyers, or other promotional pieces.  Businesses must reserve a spot on the program by calling Director John Goldsmith at 664-9272.  Everyone is welcome.


GREENVILLE PLAN COMMISSION MEETING

The Greenville Plan Commission scheduled a public hearing for Monday, January 28, at 7:00 p.m., at the Greenville Municipal Building.  The hearing is to review and recommend proposed sign regulations.  For more information, call the City Manager at 664-1644.

MCCARTER OPENS NEW OFFICE IN VANDALIA

State Senator Kyle McCarter recently opened a new office in Vandalia across the street from the Old State Capitol.  McCarter said he choose Vandalia because of its location and accessibility.  The Senator’s former office in Highland will be closed.  The Vandalia office is at 310 W. Gallatin and the phone number is 618-283-3000.

MULBERRY GROVE AMERICAN LEGION TO SPONSOR BLOOD DRIVE

Mulberry Grove American Legion Post #1180 is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive Thursday, January 24, in the Community Building at the Mulberry Grove Park.  The drive is from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. and each prospective donor must present identification such as a Red Cross donor’s card or a driver’s license.  Due in part to seasonal illnesses, blood donation numbers are down from usual totals.  The need for blood continues so please consider being a blood donor.  The total process, including a brief medical history and refreshment, takes less than an hour.

Herb Coats

Herb Coats, age 83, of Mulberry Grove, passed away Monday, January 21 at St. Louis University Hospital.  Funeral services will be Thursday, at 11:00 a.m., at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Mulberry Grove.  Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.  Friends may call Wednesday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

Rose Isabelle Holtmann

Rose Isabelle Holtmann, age 80, of New Baden passed away Monday, January 21. A funeral Mass will be Thursday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Albers. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery also in Albers. Friends may call Wednesday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, from 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. at Hempen Funeral Home in Albers. Memorials are suggested to St. Bernard Parish.
