HOME FIRE IN KEYESPORT

Keyesport Firefighters responded Saturday, at 9:50 p.m., to a house fire on Whig Street in Keyesport. According to Fire Chief Jim Golder, the fire was fully incorporated when firefighters arrived. Mulberry Grove and Wheatfield Department Members provided mutual aid. Firefighters were on the scene about 5 ½ hours. At 5:55 a.m. Sunday, Keyesport Firefighters were called back to the scene for a rekindle. The single-family home had two roofs and the top roof fell onto the second roof, trapping fire between them causing the rekindle. Firefighters were on scene the second time about 2 ½ hours. Chief Golder said the residence was occupied but no one was home at the time of the fire. The home was a total loss and the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.

DIGITAL MEDIA CENTER DEDICATION CEREMONY

There was a dedication ceremony Friday for the Greenville College new Light and Life Digital Media Center. Greenville College Interim President Dr. Randy Bergen said the name of the new facility is symbolic, drawing from their roots in the Free Methodist Church.  The facility has eight large screens, one projection screen, and several tables and chairs.  Each individual screen may be isolated to a particular table, allowing for small groups to work.  The screens may also be set up to show the same thing for lectures, or any combination in-between.  The entire back wall of the space is a white board.  Dr. Bergen said it took nearly a month to set up all the technology in the former church.  The Light and Life Digital Media Center is located on the west side of Greenville College campus.

MULBERRY GROVE FIREFIGHTER AWARDS

Saturday, February 2, the Mulberry Grove Fire Department honored members for years of service and outstanding performance for 2012.  Chris Waters and Josh Miller received ten year pins and fifteen year pins were presented to John Greenwood, Jay Greenwood, and Dave Koonce.  Curt Waters received the Firefighter of the Year Award.  He responded to 60% of the fire calls and has been a member of the fire department three years.  Chris Waters went on 80% of the first responder calls and was named First Responder of the Year.

BOND COUNTY BOARD OF HEALTH TO MEET

The Bond County Board of Health is scheduled to meet Monday, February 11, at 6:30 p.m.  The agenda includes advertising the administrator’s position, employee health insurance, the HFI annual policy review, fiscal year 2012 annual report, PCC management report, the DASA annual certification plan, and a flu update.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE DISTRICT 11 JANUARY ACTIVITY REPORT

Illinois State Police District 11 Commander Captain Brad Parsons reports Troopers issued 1,686 citations, 1,541 written warnings, and made 43 criminal arrests in January.  Speeding accounted for 714 of the citations and 236 were for occupant restraint violations.  They investigated 257 traffic crashes and assisted 599 motorists.  There were 21 arrests for driving under the influence and 53 citations for other alcohol related violations.

HEALTH CARE BRIDGE PROGRAM AT KASKASKIA COLLEGE

The Health Care Bridge Program at Kaskaskia College provides students the opportunity to improve their basic educational skills, prepare them to take the GED test, and explore career opportunities in the health care industry.  There is no tuition cost for qualifying students.  Scholarships are available and support services are provided.  For more information on how to qualify or register for this program, call the Adult Education and Literacy office at 545-3115.
