CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HOSTS MEETING WITH ILLINOIS COMPTROLLER PUBLIC AFFAIRS MANAGER

Matt Rice, Public Affairs Manager in the office of Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka, met with members of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce Wednesday morning.  Chamber Director John Goldsmith said Rice is based in Madison County and has been making his way around the region to let folks know about the services offered by the Comptroller’s office.  One thing discussed during the meeting was that many individuals do not know what the Illinois Comptroller does.  The Comptroller’s office offers an Identity Theft Workshop which John said they will most likely take advantage of in the future.  For more information about the Illinois Comptroller’s office, visit the website www.ioc.state.il.us.


SCHAUFELBERGER TO COMPETE AT STATE THREE POINT COMPETITION

Will Schaufelberger recently competed in the Sectional Three Point competition.  Greenville High School Athletic Director Joe Alstat said Schaufelberger will compete in the IHSA Three-Point Showdown State Final Thursday, March 7, at Carver Arena in Peoria.  Schaufelberger qualified for the finals by making 10 of 15 three-point shots at the sectional competition.  Greenville Lady Comet Kassidy Alderman also advanced to the state three-point competition.  Joe said for a school to have both a boy and a girl advance is very exciting.

GREENVILLE COLLEGE JAZZ BAND CONCERT

The Greenville College Jazz Band concert is Thursday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m., entitled “Another Swinging Night.”  You will enjoy music from the Big Band and Swing eras.  There is no admission charge and everyone is invited.  For more information, call 664-6561.

GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL TELETHON CELEBRATION

Wednesday morning at the Greenville Regional Hospital Community Room Pat Bond saluted the hard work performed by this year’s volunteers for the year-end hospital telethon.  Pat said they are very pleased and excited about the telethon results.  Sherri Beckham was honored for working the most nights calling for the telethon and Chet York for raising the most money. The telethon kicked off with a mailing in October with calls made in November, December, and follow-ups in January. This year there were 58 first-time donors. The telethon raised $92,485.00 for Greenville Regional Hospital.

Rose “Betty” Hunter Neumann

Rose “Betty” Hunter Neumann, age 84, of Greenville, passed away Friday, March 1, at Helia Healthcare.  Funeral services will be Friday, at 7:00 p.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Greenville.  Private burial services are planned.  Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church Children’s Choir, Bond County Hospice, or the Helia Healthcare Activities Fund.  Young Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jack D. May

Jack D. May, age 62, of Highland, passed away Wednesday, March 6, at his home.  Funeral services will be Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland.  Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland and Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Evangelical United Church of Christ.

Joan M. Spengel

Joan M. Spengel, age 74, of Highland, passed away Tuesday, March 5, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.  A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Paul Catholic Church.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.  Friends may call Sunday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Monday, from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m., at the Meredith Funeral Home in Highland.  Memorials are suggested to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
