SENATOR MCCARTER SAYS MURRAY CENTER ONE OF TOP PRIORITIES

An Illinois Senate committee will hold a hearing next month on a new budget for the state’s Department of Human Services, which runs the Murray Center in Centralia. The state plans to close the center by the end of this year. close. State Senator Kyle McCarter says Murray Center residents and families are foremost on his list of priorities this year.  McCarter recently met with a Murray Center family from Washington County and heard of the difficulties the closure is causing their family.  McCarter says closing the center puts the residents at risk and we need to show they are a priority not just by allocating money but by stopping the closure.  The Illinois Department of Human Services’ budget will be heard by a Senate Appropriations committee Wednesday, April 10.


CITY OF GREENVILLE SPRING LEAF DISPOSAL

The City of Greenville’s leaf vacuuming program is going on now through Monday, April 15, weather permitting.  Please rake your leaves to the edge of the curb or the road and keep piles no higher than three feet.  Be sure there are no sticks, brush, and other debris in the piles of leaves.  The city will compost the leaves and offer them to residents after April 3.

The leaf burning season is now – April 15.  Burning is permitted on private property Mondays and Thursdays, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and the first and third weekends of the month from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Since the city is collecting leaves, you are encouraged to bag leaves and set them by the curb or rake your leaves to the curb for vacuuming instead of burning.

VFW HOSTS BLOOD DRIVE

VFW Post 1377 hosted an American Red Cross blood drive recently.  Forty-nine persons registered with forty-five units collected.  Dolan Leverton received a 21-gallon pin, Robert Boudouris a 16-gallon pin, Patrick Densmore an 11-gallon pin, Jim Cruthis a seven-gallon pin, Chuck Dothager a four-gallon pin, Elizabeth Weiss a two-gallon pin, and Brooklyn Hawk a one-gallon pin.


ARMED FORCES MUSEUM BOARD REORGANIZES

The Armed Forces Museum Board of Greenville recently elected officers.  Jim Romack is president, Jim Blankenship vice-president, and Scott Spencer treasurer.  Jim Romack said his goals are to build membership, plan fund raisers, and have better visibility in the area.  He suggested the museum should have a presence in local parades and activities.  Membership dues are $10.00 for adults, $3.00 for students, and $100.00 for a lifetime membership.  The next meeting is April 20, at 10:30 a.m., at the Farm Heritage Museum’s main building.  For more information, call 780-4848.

BOND COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO MEET

The Bond County Historical Society meeting is Tuesday, March 26, at the Bradford Building.  A board meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and a program on William Northcott is at 7:00.  Northcott, a former Bond County State’s Attorney later became Illinois Lieutenant Governor.  A tour of the newly remodeled DeMoulin Museum follows the program.  Everyone is invited.

Helen Maxine Sims

Helen Maxine Sims, age 68, of Coffeen, passed away Monday, March 25, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen.

Kyle P. Holthaus

Kyle P. Holthaus, age 32, of Breese, formerly of Bartelso, passed away Saturday, March 23, in St. Rose Township. A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso. Friends may call Tuesday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown. Memorials are suggested to his daughter’s education.

LaDonne D. Green    

LaDonne D. Green, age 95, of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Carlyle, passed away Friday, March 22, in Conway, South Carolina.  Funeral services will be Friday, at 11:00 a.m., at Carlyle Christian Church.  Burial will be in Carlyle Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the Carlyle Christian Church.  Zieren-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Hustedde   

Robert Hustedde, age 71, of Carlyle, passed away Monday, March 25, at Carlyle Healthcare Center.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
