HEALTH FAIR 2013 PRE-REGISTRATION

Health Fair 2013 is Friday, April 5.  Here is information on times and locations where you may pre-register.
Pre-registration is Monday – Friday, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Bond County Senior Citizen Center in Greenville.
Friday, March 29, registration is at National Bank in Keyesport from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1, you may pre-register at the Pocahontas Village Hall from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Mulberry Grove Village Firehouse from 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and the Sorento Municipal Center from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
There are still plenty of appointment slots available.  Pre-registration is not required, however, some blood tests require you to fast for 12 hours prior to the test.  For more information, call Ryan at 664-1230, ext. 3006.

THOUSANDS OF FLAGS TO BE PUT UP IN HONOR OF CORPORAL RIPPERDA

26 year-old Corporal Aaron J. Ripperda of Marine was recently killed during a training exercise in Nevada.  A group of individuals will be working hard this weekend to put up more than 2,000 flags in his honor.  Hope for Heroes Program Coordinator Chip Shaffer said they will be placing roughly 2200 flags this weekend.  The large 3x5 foot flags are on 7 ½ foot long poles and will be placed approximately every 15 feet along both sides of the road on the funeral procession route.  They will meet Easter Sunday at the VFW in Highland at 4:00 p.m. to begin setting up the flags.  Volunteers are welcome.  Pick-up trucks will be needed to transport the flags along the route.  If you have any questions or would like additional information, call Chip at 567-5315.


EARLY AND ABSENTEE VOTING FOR CONSOLIDATED ELECTION

The Consolidated Election is Tuesday, April 9.  Bond County Clerk Randy Reitz said early voting is now through Thursday, April 4.  Absentee voting is from Friday, April 5 until election day.  Early voting is a popular option for many voters as it allows them to choose the date and time to vote.  Absentee voting is for people who will be away from home election day.  For more information, call the Bond County Clerk’s Office at 664-0449.

TROOPER DEATHERAGE RALLY

The Reguladores Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and the Trooper Kyle Deatherage Fundraiser Foundation are sponsoring the 1st Annual Trooper Deatherage Rally, Saturday, April 20.  The rally starts in Alton and ends at the Tri-Township Park in Troy, spanning approximately 80 miles.  At the Troy Park, there will be fun and games for the kids, an ISP Honor Guard presentation of the Colors, auctions, food, and entertainment.  For more information, call Nick at 444-0839.


MULBERRY GROVE SOFTBALL INVITATIONAL

The 2013 Mulberry Grove Softball Invitational Tournament is Saturday, March 30.  The tournament will be a three-team round robin format this year with no entry fee.  There will be trophies for the top two teams.  The schedule is as follows –
10:00 a.m.               Mulberry Grove vs Greenville
11:30 a.m.              Greenville vs Breese Mater Dei
1:00 p.m.                Breese Mater Dei vs Mulberry Grove

Orville W. Becker

Orville W. Becker, age 92, of Marine, passed away Wednesday, March 27, at Liberty Village of Maryville.  Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marine.  Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Highland.  Friends may call Tuesday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, from 8:00 – 9:15 a.m., at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.  Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Leonard L. “Lenny” Messerli

Leonard L. “Lenny” Messerli, age 66, of Highland, passed away Wednesday, March 27, at Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville.  A funeral mass will be Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland.  Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW and American Legion.  Friends may call Monday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m., at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.  Memorials are suggested to VFW Post #5694 or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Harold L. Reker

Harold L. Reker, age 87, of St. Jacob, passed away Thursday, March 28, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Church of Christ of Marine.  Burial will be in Marine Cemetery.  Friends may call Monday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine and Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Christ of Marine.

Catherine B. “Katie” Albers

Catherine B. “Katie” Albers, age 101, of Germantown, passed away Wednesday, March 27.  A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown.  Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.  Friends may call Monday, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.  Memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice, Breese Nursing Home Activity Fund, or the donor’s choice.
