LEVEE BREAKS HIT FAYETTE COUNTY FARMLAND

RFD’s Alan Jarand spoke with local Farm Bureau manager Ron Marshall about the damage caused by flooding in Fayette County.  Ron said they had in excess of 15,000 acres under water during the flooding.  Along the Kaskaskia River there were eight breaks in the levee.  The river was 10 feet over flood stage at the time of the breaks and four of those breaks were more than 100 feet long.  Right now, Ron said they are out of commission as far as farming is concerned because there are trees in the middle of farm lands.  Ron added levees cannot be repaired until the ground dries out.
