GREENVILLE PILOTS ASSOCIATION HOSTS YOUNG EAGLES EVENT SATURDAY

The Greenville Pilots Association “Young Eagles” event is Saturday, May 11, from 8:00 a.m. – noon at the Greenville Airport.  The Young Eagles Event is sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Greenville Pilots Association.  According to Craig Baumberger, the activity gives young people ages 8-17 experience with aviation careers.  For more information, call the Greenville Airport at 664-0926.

IHSA BASS FISHING STATE FINALS RESCHEDULED

The IHSA Board of Directors announced the postponed Bass Fishing State Finals will be Friday and Saturday, May 31- June 1, at Carlyle Lake.  The tournament, May 3-4 was postponed due to high water levels at Carlyle Lake.  Several of the IHSA Sectional tournaments were delayed due to weather this season.  52 boats qualified at the Sectional level for the state final tournament and are slated to compete in the fifth annual event.


STAMP OUT HUNGER IN GREENVILLE SATURDAY

Greenville Post Office personnel will participate in the National Association of Letter Carriers "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive Saturday, May 11.  To participate, leave your non-perishable food items next to or inside your mailbox for pickup by a mail carrier.  Food may also be dropped off at the post office.  There is no limit to the amount of food you may donate.  All food collected in Greenville will go to the Greenville Food Pantry.  For more information, call the Greenville Post Office at 664-0145.

FORD TEST DRIVE AND YARD SALE AT GHS

Saturday, May 11, from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., the Greenville Comets Sports Boosters are hosting a Ford Test Drive event at the high school.  For every participant who takes a free test drive, Ford Motor Company will donate $20.00 to the Comets Sports Boosters.  There will also be a yard sale in the high school cafeteria featuring brand new, in-the-box items up to 50% off retail price.  Those who test drive a car will receive an additional 10% off at the yard sale.  The test drive event will go on rain or shine.

GREENVILLE HIGH SCHOOL PROM

It was not perfect weather for a dance in evening wear but Greenville High School’s prom was a success.  Principal Wendy Porter said despite the gloomy weather, last weekend's Prom and Post-Prom were enjoyed by everyone attending.  Cameron Walter and Ava Bergen were elected Prom King and Prom Queen, Jonah Gaffner was chosen “Mr. Nice Guy,” and Marissa Weiss was selected “Miss Congeniality.”

PATOKA ARBOR DAY EVENT RE-SCHEDULED

The Patoka Arbor Day event was postponed and re-scheduled for Saturday, May 11, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Village Hall.  For more information, call 432-5855.


PETIT JURY CANCELLED

According to Bond County Circuit Clerk Rex Catron, the Petit Jury scheduled for Monday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m., has been cancelled.  The next Petit Jury date has not been set.  For more information, call the Circuit Clerk’s office at 664-3208.



OBITUARIES

Gene R. Bergfield

Gene R. Bergfield, age 61, of Auburndale, Florida, passed away Tuesday, May 7, at the Good Shepherd Hospice Home in Florida.  A memorial service will be Sunday, May 19, at 11:00 a.m., at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.  Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.  Friends may call Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Timothy M. Burke

Timothy M. Burke, age 54, of Peachtree City, Georgia, formerly of Greenville, passed away Monday, May 6, at his home.  A celebration of Tim’s life will be Saturday, May 18, at the Greenville Country Club, from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. Private graveside funeral services are planned.  Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Christian School or Valley Hope Association.  The Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
