30TH ANNUAL GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL AUXILIARY BOOK FAIR

The 30th annual Greenville Regional Hospital Auxiliary Book Fair is Thursday through Saturday, June 13-15, in the Greenville First Christian Church Family Life Center.  The book fair will be open Thursday, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., Friday from 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  There will be an “early bird” admission fee Thursday and the Greenville Municipal Band will play Thursday, starting at 7:00 p.m.  More than 30,000 items will be available for purchase in 55 categories and there will be special promotions and pricing Saturday.  Book fair items may be donated at Greenville Regional Hospital, Fair Oaks, Auxiliary Thrift Shop, Capri IGA, and at most banks and churches in Greenville.  You may also take donations to Funderburk’s 66 in Pocahontas, National Bank in Keyesport, and First National Bank in Mulberry Grove.  For more information or to have donations picked up, call Jack at 664-2797.

SUMMER PROGRAMS AT GREENVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Greenville Public Library is kicking off their annual summer programs.  Library Director Mike Westbrooks said they are very excited about their summer reading programs.  One of them is "Ice Cream for Books," continuing now through August 1.  Young people reading the required number of books get a Dairy Queen treat.  The Summer Reading Program is Wednesdays, July 10, 17, 24, and 31, at 2:00 p.m.  There will be storytellers, a mini carnival, and a musical performance.  For more information, call the library at 664-3115.

ILLINOIS SUPREME COURT APPOINTS INTERIM CIRCUIT JUDGE

The Illinois Supreme Court recently appointed Associate Judge James Hackett to be a resident Circuit Judge in the Third Judicial Circuit, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Chief Judge Ann Callis.  Judge Hackett will serve until the next general election in November 2014.  His appointment is effective June 7, 2013 through December 1, 2014.  Prior to his appointment as an associate judge in 1995, Judge Hackett was in private practice with Meyer & Hackett in Alton.  He served as city attorney for the City of Edwardsville and as special public defender for Madison County.

GREENVILLE MUNICIPAL BAND CONCERT JUNE 13

The Greenville Municipal Band will perform Thursday, June 13, at 7:00 p.m., at the Book Fair at the First Christian Church.  In case of inclement weather, the concert will be inside.

Barbara A. Miles

Barbara A. Miles, age 72, of Carlyle, passed away Sunday, June 9, at Caring First Nursing Home in Breese.  Graveside funeral services will be Thursday, at 10:00 a.m., at McKendree Chapel Cemetery.  Friends and family are asked to gather at the cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice.  Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle is in charge of arrangements.

Gene L. Potthast

Gene L. Potthast, age 83, of Greenville, passed away Friday, June 7, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri.  Funeral services will be Monday, June 17, at 10:00 a.m., at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Greenville.  Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.  Friends may call Sunday, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the Knights of Columbus Council #11707 Scholarship Fund or the American Farm Heritage Museum.  Young Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.
