Illinois Congressman Rodney Davis escaped injury during the shooting incident outside of Washington, D.C. earlier this week.
Shaken by the experience, Davis said we all must stand together to stop hateful political rhetoric that has now led to violence. He said as Americans we have the ability to disagree on policies, but disagreements should be voiced respectfully and action should be taken at the ballot box.
Davis said he will do everything he can to work with his colleagues across the aisle to send the message that Republicans and Democrats can and do get along. He said the majority of what lawmakers do is actually bipartisan.
