Willie Lee Nabors, age 104 of Carlyle, passed away at her home on Monday, May 15th, 2017. Mrs. Nabors was born in Natchez Mississippi on March 26, 1913, a daughter of Robert King and Goesby (Pernell) Havard. he married Theodore Nabors on December 12, 1963, in St. Louis, Missouri and he preceded her in death on February 28, 2001.
Sister Nabors was once employed by Deaconess Hospital and Forrest Park Manor Nursing Home in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a member of Christ Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where she served proudly on the usher board for many years. Sister Nabors moved to Carlyle/Royal Lake area with her husband Theodore Nabors in 1969. She was also affiliated with Holy Garden of Prayer Church in Carlyle offering her knowledge to members in the church who also wanted to serve as ushers in the church. Her love for children prospered even more in the early seventies by being employed at Head Start.
Anyone who knew Sister Nabors would know that she loved to work outside in her yard, whether it be trimming her bushes or raking leaves. If she had the strength to do it, she would get the job done. Along with doing yard work, she was a good cook, loved to spend time with her dog “Pup”, her cousin Dorothy Pernell and especially loved spending time with her grandson “Junior”.
Mrs. Nabors is survived by her grandchildren-James Nabors of Carlyle, Shabrenda Jones and husband Dennis of Memphis Tennessee and Shamone Keys and wife Toneka of Memphis; 6 great grandchildren- Jessica and Jamyra Nabors, Harlon Davis, Naya Jones, and Quinton and Jaden Keys; a cousin-Dorothy Pernell of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and many other cousins, relatives and host of friends.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her cousin W.D.Pernell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Joe Hill, officiating. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Nabors may be made to BCMW Head Start and will be received at Zieren Funeral Home.
